Edgar Ray Killen, accused of the 1964 murder of Civil Rights workers James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman, will stand trial as scheduled next month.

Killen's defense team had requested Monday that the trial be dismissed, but Circuit Court Judge Marcus Gordon denied their request. The basis of their request was that Killen was being "selectively prosecuted" because no other suspects have been indicted in this latest action.

The trial will begin June 13. Look for full coverage in the DSJV.
