Protesters in Israel glue shut government office doors
(JTA) Rightist protestors glued shut the doors to government offices throughout Israel. Police said Sunday that as many as 150 offices of the Interior Ministry and other government agencies in seven coastal cities had been jammed shut overnight by activists opposed to the looming Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank. "If the citizens of the State of Israel do not awake from this nightmare, the entire country will be shut down," read a pamphlet left at one office. Five teenagers were arrested in Jerusalem on suspicion of similar vandalism against government property. In a separate incident, scores of right-wingers held a sit-down protest on the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem highway, holding up rush-hour traffic.
